Maria Sharapova always tries to be very professional on any day of her life, but the Russian player has some “distractions”, including for eating. ‘I like Nutella a lot,’ the former world no. 1 confessed in a recent press conference.
‘Nutella on crepes, that’s one of my favorites. When I’m in Paris I kind of go crazy on that. It changes all the time, actually. The reason I got into gummies was because when I moved to the States when I was seven or eight, I saw like Gummy Bears and gummy‑type candies, and I had never seen that in Russia before. So I was quite amazed, and I was like, I can’t wait to bring this back to my friends, especially at movie theatres when you go and you choose all the different types of flavors.
I think that’s one of the reasons I was so excited about lunching it and lunching something that I have very fond memories of. ‘I have been on the tour for many years. I started as a young teenager. I feel like I have seen a lot of different generations.
The reality of it is it’s not like your generation is going to be the only one playing tennis. You’re always going to see new up‑and‑comers and talent, you know, great players that are juniors and that are making the transition from the juniors to the pros, you know, and it’s part of it.
When you retire, there’s always going to be somebody that takes your place in the rankings and the draws. That’s just the reality of it. When I came up, you know, you had Justine and Kim and the Williamses, and I felt I was kind of the younger of the bunch.’
