Rock star tennis player Roger Federer wowed us last April when he married his longtime love, Miroslava “Mirka” Vavrinec with a lavish wedding in his native Switzerland.
Twenty-seven-year-old Roger and 31-year-old Mirka had been dating nine years when she got pregnant and they called a shotgun wedding (although to be honest, we’re not sure they use that exact term in Switzerland). They smiled massively in photos of the ceremony and announced with great fanfare that they were expecting a little boy.
So imagine our surprise at this morning’s news that Mirka didn’t give birth to a little boy…instead, she had twin girls! The Federers welcomed the babies on July 23, and Roger quickly posted this message on his Facebook:
“I have some exciting news to share with everyone. Late last night, in Switzerland, Mirka and I became proud parents of twin girls. We named them Myla Rose and Charlene Riva and they are both healthy, and, along with their mother, they are doing great. This is the best day of our lives.”
The Telegraph UK reports that Mirka was “heavily pregnant” but supportive earlier this month when she attended Roger’s record-breaking match against Andy Roddick earlier this month.
Roger and Mirka reportedly met in 2000 when they were playing for Switzerland in the Sydney Olympics. Mirka became Roger’s PR manager after she retired because of an injury.
